Global Head of Asset Management
Steve Kurz is the Global Head of Asset Management at Galaxy and a member of Galaxy’s founding team. In addition, Steve is a member of the firm’s management committee and serves as chair of the ESG Steering Committee. Before joining the firm, he Co-founded Outer Realm, an enterprise focused immersive software company (sold in 2022). Previously, he was a Principal and Head of Business Development at River Birch Capital, where he led global capital formation efforts. Prior to that, he was a Vice President at Fortress Investment Group, where he held strategy, product specialist, and capital formation roles in New York and Singapore. He started his career as a Capital Markets Analyst in the Fixed Income Division of Lehman Brothers. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Cornell University. He also serves as a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Chief Operating Officer
William Burt is the Chief Operating Officer of Asset Management overseeing day-to-day operations. Prior to joining Galaxy, William was a Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of the Portfolio Solutions group at Blackstone Alternative Asset Management. He was also actively involved in performing non-investment due diligence on underlying hedge fund and direct investments. Prior to joining Blackstone in 2011, William worked at McKinsey & Company, advising clients on strategic and organizational issues with a focus on operations and cost savings. Earlier in his career, William worked at Arthur Andersen LLP in the Assurance and Business Advisory practice. He received a BBA in Accounting from the College of William and Mary, where he graduated with distinction and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.
Head of ETF Strategies
Paul Cappelli is Head of ETF strategies overseeing all of Asset Management’s passively managed funds and day-to-day management of the portfolios. Prior to Galaxy, Paul was a Director of Fixed Income at State Street Global Advisors, working in Capital Markets for their ETF Business. Prior to joining SSGA, he was a Director in High Yield sales and trading at Oppenheimer. Paul started his career at HSBC as a Foreign Exchange Analyst before spending nearly 10 years at Citigroup in Fixed Income sales and trading. He is a member of the Monogram Club at the University of Notre Dame where he won a Monogram as member of the Men’s Lacrosse Team from 2000-2004. He is also a supporter of a Walk on Water which promotes therapy through surfing. Paul holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Notre Dame.
Head of Liquid Active Strategies
Christopher Rhine, CFA oversees Asset Management’s liquid active crypto and emerging technology strategies. Chris is also responsible for the FTX liquidation mandate and the State Street sub-advised active ETFs including HECO, DECO and TEKX. Chris brings over 20 years of investment experience to Galaxy, most recently at Cohen & Steers where he served as Head of Thematic Strategies, including Digital Infrastructure, Global Logistics, and Sustainable Resources strategies. He was also Head of Natural Resource Equities and a Portfolio Manager on the Global Listed Infrastructure team. Prior to Cohen & Steers, Chris worked at BlackRock as an analyst and Portfolio Manager on the firm’s Global Opportunities team. He has an MBA from New York University and a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Drexel University.
Head of North America Asset Management Sales
Mark Toomey is Head of North America Asset Management Sales. Prior to joining Galaxy, Mark spent 18 years at Goldman Sachs most recently as a Managing Director running their Equity Institutional Derivatives Sales team. He brings over 20 years of experience in financial markets, people management, and strategy to Galaxy. Mark has an MBA from Georgetown University and B.A. from Syracuse University.
Portfolio Manager, Multi-Manager Active
Dan Zuller, CFA is a Portfolio Manager at Galaxy Vision Hill. Galaxy Vision Hill is the multi-manager fund of funds business division of Galaxy Fund Management. Prior to Galaxy Vision Hill, Dan was a Partner at Vision Hill Group, which was acquired by Galaxy Digital in May 2021. Prior to Vision Hill, Dan co-managed alternative investments for the U.S. Pension investment team at Citigroup where he specialized in Hedge Fund, Venture Capital, & Private Equity fund allocations. Dan graduated from TCNJ & was accepted into the Stanford Center for Professional Development graduate program in 2019 where he completed coursework specializing in blockchain technology at the Stanford School of Engineering. Dan is also a CFA Charterholder.
